Effective Literacy Website #1

Scholastic (https://www.scholastic.com/home) is an excellent literacy website that connects educators and families through accessibility, engagement, and expertise. It is the world’s largest publisher and distributor of children’s books. With a little history background, Scholastic began as a magazine called The Western Pennsylvania Scholastic, which was first published on October 20, 1920, by Maurice R. "Robbie" Robinson. Scholastic has experienced tremendous development over the years, and they recently celebrated their 100th anniversary on October 22, 2020. Scholastic does a great job in appealing to such a large age range, from children in Pre-Kindergarten to 12th grade.

You can navigate through the tabs on the homepage to find book clubs, book fairs, and magazines. Additional links for targeted audiences such as educators, parents, students, and librarians can be found near the bottom of the website. The best thing that Scholastic has to offer is the one-stop shop of endless books! Books are organized and can be shopped by grade and age, format and subject, series and characters, featured books, and educational books. The website is very user-friendly for families to use. Scholastic also offers monthly book order catalogs that I remember receiving when I was in elementary. It would always be satisfying to preview what new books are available, especially the huge book bundles that they occasionally offer for purchase.  Overall, Scholastic is a comprehensive, fun, and educational online hub that is easily accessible and is full of useful information. When you want to build your own library in your classroom or at home, Scholastic is the place to go.
