ILA Newsletter Weekly Project: Effective Literacy Website #5

Kiz Phonics (www.kizphonics.com) is a website that utilizes modern programming to teach kids reading, writing, and phonics from grades preschool to second grade. While the website requires a membership fee, it offers many materials that you can use for free. By navigating the homepage, you will be able to explore the various activities you can use to teach specific focuses of reading or writing. Some of the activities available on the website include Phonics Worksheets, Phonics Games, Word Family Games, Flashcards, and Phonics Games. Many more activities can be found by simply hovering over the Activities tab located at the top of the website.
Kiz Phonics provides a phonics program for each grade level. Clicking on each grade level will bring you to a category of educational tools and resources that can be used to teach children.  You will also find a compilation of activities for each literacy focus. For example, in the Kindergarten Level 1 Reading Activities, you will find a link for Beginning Consonants, Ending Consists, etc.

The phonics activities from Kiz Phonics are incredible. Young learners will surely find these activities helpful and enjoyable. The free phonics games available on the website allow the users to listen to the sounds then drag and drop the letters to complete the word or sound. As the learner starts to master the fundamentals, you can access the games to progress their learning.

Overall, I think Kiz Phonics is a fantastic tool. It can be handy with teaching young learners the basics of reading, writing, and phonics at home and school. The cute and colorful design of the activities is visually enticing and will surely entice children. The website also has a program designed for mobile devices such as iPads, so parents or teachers can readily use this tool for children who can use supplemental activities or extra help.
