Want to bring joyful reading that embraces cultural diversity into the classroom? Unite for Literacy (https://www.uniteforliteracy.com) is an excellent website that aims to bring a world where all children have access to a diverse range of books that celebrate their languages and cultures while also encouraging a lifelong love of reading. Unite for Literacy offers captivating digital picture books in a variety of languages, all with audio narration choices. These books can be found on the site’s bookshelf. Unite for Literacy is also easily accessible on any user device, including a computer, tablet, or smartphone. The books are free for all readers, and no personal information or registration is required.
Teachers can choose books to read from the library shelves by browsing the main page. Each book can be effortlessly searched or filtered by category or title. You may also navigate through the categories section to explore different themes, such as animals or families, to narrow down your options. To read a book, choose it and click it. To hear each page, click the speaker icon. As previously mentioned, each book comes with a great selection of narration options and languages other than English, such as Tagalog, Korean, Chinese, and Spanish. This provides English Language Learners immense support because they may choose to play each page in their native language first, then English, or vice versa. Another fantastic feature provided by Unite for Literacy is the option of American Sign Language for students with hearing impairment. When selected, video clips of a person signing the current page of the book appear.
Overall, Unite for Literacy is a wonderful literacy resource that provides multilingual families and students a digital library that recognizes all cultures, backgrounds, and languages. Using its culturally relevant resources is a great way to promote language learning as students’ reading experiences become more meaningful to them.
