ILA Newsletter Weekly Project: Effective Literacy Website #5
Create a colorful short narrative using the tools at My Storybook to get students started with digital storytelling. My Storybook (https://www.mystorybook.com) is a free online digital tool that allows users to build an unlimited number of digital storybooks while sharing them with whomever they choose. Students can start making their own digital storybooks once they have made a free account. They can choose from a variety of fonts, photos, colors, and backgrounds. They can also insert some of their own photographs in the storybook by uploading them. Once the product is ready to be published, students will be given the option of sharing it via social media as well as a link to post on a website so that others can easily find it.
The content of this website is extremely user-friendly, simple, and clearly appropriate for its target audience. This tool, in my opinion, is best suited for elementary students. Incorporating My Storybook into the classroom can be an excellent use of technology since it allows students to produce something they might not have been able to do with only a pencil and paper. Students can use the technology to browse other students' storybooks and share their own with the world. This not only expands the classroom's boundaries, but it also encourages students to produce higher-quality work. Students may also utilize their imaginations to develop something that can subsequently be used by the whole class. It is ultimately an engaging literacy experience for students to demonstrate knowledge of a subject and experiment with creative writing.
Moreover, teachers can use My Storybook to teach digital story creation to students for the first time. Consider giving a whole-class demonstration of writing a short narrative for them or writing a story together, page by page, as a collaborative project. What’s great is that writing, sketching, photography, and speaking skills are all practiced as part of the book-making process. Students can effortlessly gain input on how to convey messages most effectively by sharing their book creations with classmates or working on a book collaboratively as a class. My Storybook is truly a fun and easy way for students to create their first interactive digital book!
