Believe and Achieve
Achieve 3000 is a
subscription-based, Pre K–12 supplemental
reading instruction that focuses on building phonemic awareness, phonics,
fluency, reading comprehension, vocabulary, and writing skills. Initially
founded in 2000 by the McGraw Hill Education, Achieve 3000 provides supplemental
differentiated instruction for nonfiction towards reading and writing. The learning platform provides reading
materials directly patterned to student’s reading level. Students complete a diagnostic test initially
to determine their reading level. Based
on the results of this assessment, students are given their set of practice
materials. Although teachers assign the
class the same reading passages, the text complexity is based on the student’s
reading level. The program automatically
increases the rigor as the student advances in their reading levels. Achieve
3000 lesson outline is as follows:
·
Conducting a Before Reading Poll
·
Reading the Article
·
Answering the Activity Questions
·
Respond to an After Reading Poll
·
Finalizing the lesson with a thought question.
In addition to
Achieve 3000 Literacy and Achieve 3000 Math, the tool has other literacy
programs added such as KidBiz3000 (for grades 2-5 grade levels), TeenBiz3000
(secondary level), Empower3000 (for adults) and eScience3000, all of which
provide supplemental tools to assist students with literacy. Parents are also
able to access and monitor their child’s progress. The added bonus to Achieve
3000 is that it allows teachers to connect with parents and assist with the
student’s level of intervention. Students who reach a specific level also
receive ‘badges’ or awards to acknowledge their level of achievement. Students are
recommended to complete at a minimal two articles per week to make significant
academic progress.
