IRA Newsletter Project Effective Literacy Website Review #4: www.wizer.me

An effective literacy website should be a vehicle to enhance a student’s understanding of literary content. The website I chose to review is not a library of literary works. The site I chose is a tool. A tool that teachers can use to bring literary material to students in the form of interactive online activities and worksheets.

At wizer.com teachers can upload content and format standards focused worksheets in a fun, user, and creator friendly activities. The platform as a rich library of design tools, backgrounds, and premade formats to chose from. It includes the option to upload PDF documents and convert them into editable documents. This is so useful for teachers as we vacillate from online teaching to in person teaching as these activities can be used at home or at school.

Wizer.me also provides feedback and grades the assignments automatically. Teachers can differentiate the items for individual students to ensure that students are receiving developmentally appropriate content. Wizer.me links to multiple CMS platforms such as Google Classroom and Schoology. This site would lend itself most valuably in encouraging reading comprehension, writing, and collaboration between students.

To get started with www.wizer.me teachers simply sign up for a free account. A premium account aka “Wizer Boost” can be purchased for $2.99 per month. Teacher created activities are available for use and are easy to navigate and browse through. They include all content areas. As a free user, any activities or worksheet you create will be accessible by other members on the wizer.me platform. The “boost” gives you the option to keep your creations private, link grades directly to your Google Classroom, record video instructions, student video answers, organize students into groups, as well as control who can answer the worksheet, force worksheets submissions, and schedule when worksheets go live.

This tool is a game changer for teachers and students as it makes creating literary activities accessible, easy to create, manage, and give teachers the freedom of content as they can include what they need where they need it. Wizer.me encourages to interact meaningfully with literary content in a non-threatening forum as it encourages collaboration and thought development through the various question formats. Wizer.me makes me feel wiser for using all they have to offer.
